Woman discovers hack to clean inside dusty radiators to keep energy bills low

Radiators are often neglected when it comes to cleaning and dusting.

Cleaning gurus say they're actually the one thing you do need to keep dust-free - or it could end up costing you money.

Dust trapped inside a radiator can prevent heat from escaping, which will mean your radiators have to work extra hard to warm your room.

It's important then clean your radiators at least once a year as it can help lower heating costs and keep your energy bills lower.

One woman who was eager to clean her radiator took to Facebook to ask for advice.

She said: "Inside my radiator is full of dust. How do I clean this? Hoovering and trying to dust isn't working."

Group members rushed to share their tips, tricks and advice in the comments in the hopes of fixing her problem, with the most popular solution being to use a hairdryer.

"Blast inside with a hairdryer," one person wrote, while another added: "Hairdryer on full blast."

Someone else said the same but urged the woman to put something underneath the radiator to catch the dust.

"Use a hairdryer to blow it out, make sure you put newspaper down underneath as you'll be amazed what comes out," they said.

Another person commented: "I’ve just used a hairdryer on mine.

"It was fantastic and the dust that came out was disgusting - absolutely loads of it.

"Give it a go, you will be shocked what comes out."

A few other people suggested that she use a radiator brush, or if she doesn't have one of those, one person said she could make her own out of a microfibre cloth and a hanger.

"Was watching Dirty house SOS the other night and one of the guys wrapped a microfibre cloth around a straightened out metal clothes hanger," she said.

"It really picked up the dust etc! Think you can catch up on their program too if this helps."
