Woman discovered in pool of blood after being mauled to death by French Bulldog

A woman was discovered lying in a pool of blood after being savagely mauled to death by her own dos.

Lisa Urso, 52, died after being attacked by at least one of her beloved French Bulldogs at her home in Chicago, Illinois, on Saturday.

The incident came just weeks after one of the canines, named Blue, had bitten her boyfriend resulting in it being taken away by animal control for monitoring.

A friend was horrified to find Ms Urso's body lying on the front porch of her home, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The victim had reportedly tried to escape from the frenzied attack before collapsing outside.

Lisa's injuries covered "a very large percentage of her body" and her clothes were torn off, according to Lake County Coroner Dr Howard Cooper.

Both of the French Bulldogs were found covered in blood (WFLA)

Ms Urso is understood to have had three dogs, two of which were French Bulldogs and a one a border collie mix.

Investigators say two of the bulldogs had blood on them, but it is unclear if one or both were responsible for the attack.

Mr Cooper explained: "We know one is an aggressive dog who had bitten someone before."

Local animal control manager Robin Van Sickle said that there have been reports the larger dog, named Blue, was rescued from a dog fighting ring.

Police say Blue (not pictured) had been monitored by animal control after attacking Ms. Urso's boyfriend (WFLA)

In April, Blue had attacked Lisa's boyfriend on two separate occasions causing the dog to be taken into quarantine.

Following that incident, the boyfriend required stitches to his shoulder and upper arm, as well as his foot and leg in the second attack.

After the incident, Blue was taken and quarantined for 10-days but did not show any aggressive behaviour

Van Sickle added the dog "did not give us cause for any concern".

Fox Lake Police Chief Jimmy Lee dubbed this as a "fatal mistake" and said: "The lady wanted her dog back and it attacked her viciously and killed her."

Coroner Cooper added: "She loved that animal. If she ever thought it would have attacked her, I'm sure she wouldn't have wanted it back. Clearly she believed she was fine with him."
