The death of 39-year-old woman on party boat during a cruise of Sydney Harbour yesterday afternoon is not believed to be drug-related or suspicious, police say.
Paramedics were called to a marina at Balmain, in the city's inner west, about 4:00pm on Saturday.
There were initial reports passengers had been overcome by fumes, but firefighters used gas detectors to rule out the involvement of any noxious material.
NSW Ambulance Inspector Giles Buchanan said the woman, from Berowra in Sydney's upper north shore, was alone before the incident.
"She appears to have collapsed in the toilet where we found her," he said.
In an update on Sunday morning, police said an investigation into the woman's death was continuing.
"However, it's not believed to be suspicious or drug-related," police said.
Paramedics worked on the woman for about 20 minutes but she couldn't be saved.
The three-level boat, the Lady Rose, is licensed to carry up to 475 passengers for "cocktail-style" functions.
The incident happened while the boat was on the harbour, forcing it to dock at the nearby marina.
Inspector Buchanan said there were up to 100 people on board.
"There were a number of other people on the boat that were treated, mainly for emotional shock and the disturbing nature of the scene," he said.
"I believe all the people … were on a party vessel for a birthday party, they're all friends or know the deceased."
NSW Ambulance was not aware of any suspicious circumstances.
"A crime scene has been established on the cruise boat as police conduct a full investigation," police said in a statement.
