Woman dies in hospital after crash in Neath

A woman has died following a crash in Neath, police have confirmed.

Officers were alerted to a collision between a car and a pedestrian at around 3.15pm on January 27 on the B4434 at Victoria Gardens, Neath.

A woman was taken to hospital to be treated for "serious injuries" but a South Wales Police spokesman has now confirmed the injured woman died in hospital on January 31.

She has been named as Gillian Jenkins who was 75 years old and from Cimla, Neath.

In a statement her family said: "Gillian is survived by her loving husband Hugh and her three sisters Myrna, Rita, and Joyce.

"Gillian was brought up in the Melyn area. Throughout her life she will be known for living in both Melyn and Neath.

"Gillian retired after more than 20 years of service working at the David S Smith cardboard factory in the Melyn.

"Both Gillian and her husband loved to go walking together and Gillian especially loved to shop for clothes as she loved fashion. She would often say she would spend a fortune on clothes if she had the money!

"She will be sorely missed by family, friends, and all that knew her."

South Wales Police, who are investigating the incident, continue to appeal for any witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage that may have captured the incident that involved a blue Mazda 2 hatchback and a pedestrian to contact them quoting occurrence 2200030329.
