Police are considering upgrading charges relating to a hit and run in the Darwin CBD last month, following the death of a 51-year-old woman.

Police said the woman was lying on Lindsay St when she was allegedly struck and run over by a white sedan around 8pm on February 15.

Police allege Geoffrey Rodwell hit her with his car and then fled the scene without stopping to help.

She was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital in critical condition before being transferred to South Australia for further medical treatment.

Today, more than two weeks after the incident, the woman died from her injuries.

Mr Rodwell was granted bail on February 18 after appearing in Darwin Local Court charged with hit and run causing serious harm.

NT Police said it was now considering upgrading his charges to murder.

The Major Crash Investigation Unit will prepare a report for the coroner.

Mr Rodwell is due to appear in court on March 10.
