Woman dies days after 6-vehicle Kennedy Expressway crash

A woman died, June 11, 2019, after she was injured in a six-vehicle crash two days earlier on the Kennedy Expressway near Canfield Avenue.

A woman died two days after a six-vehicle crash that left eight other people injured Sunday on the Kennedy Expressway in Norwood Park on the Northwest Side.

Jiaqiao Xiao, 23, was riding in a black 2016 Subaru when it was involved in a crash with a semi and four other vehicles at 12:29 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-90 near Canfield Avenue, Illinois State Police said in a statement.

She and another 23-year-old woman were taken to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with life-threatening injuries, according to state police and the Chicago Fire Department.

Xiao was pronounced dead at Lutheran General at 2:39 p.m. on Tuesday, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Three men, ages 25, 24 and 58, were taken to the same hospital in fair-to-serious condition, authorities said.

Two women, ages 63 and 38, went to Resurrection Medical Center along with a 66-year-old man, the fire department said. A 32-year-old man was taken to Community First Medical Center.

All inbound lanes were closed for about seven hours as authorities investigated the crash.

The cause remains under investigation, but alcohol and drugs were not considered to be a contributing factor, state police said.
