A woman has died after a two-car crash on the M4.

Police were called to the scene on the eastbound stretch of the motorway near junction 48 at Hendy in Carmarthenshire on Wednesday.

The crash, which happened at around 8.55pm, involved a purple Citroen DS3 and a white Ford Focus.

The 61-year-old driver of the Citroen died at the scene.

The driver of the Ford Focus, a 27-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries where he remains.

The road was closed in both directions for some time and police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A spokesman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “If anyone has any information on this incident or may have been travelling on the M4 at the relevant time, please contact the Serious Collision Unit quoting police reference DPP-20210113-317.”
