Woman dies and baby fights for life after car with five people crashes on UK motorway

A woman has died and a baby left fighting for his life after a vehicle with five passengers crashed on a busy motorway,

One female passenger in her 30s was also rushed to hospital in a critical condition following the single-vehicle collision on the M40 in Oxfordshire.

Police confirmed the Nissan Qashqai they were travelling in left the road and crashed, reports Oxfordshire Live.

Two other passengers, a two-year-old girl and a man in his 30s, sustained less serious injuries in the incident, which occurred between Bicester and Cherwell Valley Services on Thursday.

Thames Valley Police said on Saturday that the one-year-old baby and woman remained in a critical condition.

The M40 northbound was closed on Thursday from Junction 9 A34 near Bicester to Junction 10 B430 near Brackley/Cherwell Valley Services, causing major delays.

Long delays and up to three miles of congestion were also seen on local roads, including the A34 through Weston on the Green.

At just before 10pm on Thursday police confirmed a woman died in the incident, which involved one car.

A Thames Valley Police appeal said:“I am appealing to anybody who was driving on the M40 at around the time of this collision to please get in touch with Thames Valley Police if you have witnessed this incident.

“I’d also ask anybody who was on the M40 between junctions 9 and 10 who has dash-cam to please check this and get in touch if it has captured the collision or the moments leading up to it.

“Tragically, one person has died of her injuries and two others have suffered critical injuries.

“Our thoughts are with all of those affected at this extremely difficult time.

“If you have any information or witnessed the collision, please contact us, either by making a report online or by calling 101, quoting incident reference 43230217234.”
