Man in custody after woman's fatal stabbing in Rockhampton

Police found the woman inside the house with significant stab wounds.

A man linked to the fatal stabbing of a woman in Rockhampton overnight remains under police guard in hospital.

Police said they were called to a home on Brae Street about 6:30pm on Tuesday.

They said a 42-year-old woman had been stabbed multiple times and had significant stab wounds to her neck and abdomen.

Officers performed CPR in a bid to resuscitate her, but she was pronounced dead a short time later.

A search for a 45-year-old man, who police said was known to the woman, began in the surrounding neighbourhood.

A manhunt was launched with the police dog squad involved in the search.

The man was located and taken into custody about two hours later with what police say were self-inflicted wounds.

He was taken to the Rockhampton Hospital in a serious condition.

Police will allege the man and woman were known to each other.

The crime scene at the house remains under police guard this morning.
