Woman dies after 'saving her daughter' from lorry collision

A woman has died and a young girl has been left seriously injured after they were struck by a lorry.

The girl, whose age has not been given, was airlifted to hospital but the woman died at the scene in Stratford-upon-Avon on Friday morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Western Road at around 8.45am to reports that a car transporter lorry had collided with pedestrians.

Police said the girl received serious pelvic injuries and was in a stable condition in Birmingham Children's Hospital.

It has been reported the woman was trying to save the girl when she died.

A second girl was assessed by paramedics but was not injured, nor was the lorry driver, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

A spokesman said: "Ambulance staff would like to praise the bystanders and, in particular, the staff from a nearby car dealership for their help and assistance at the scene."

Warwickshire Police has appealed for witnesses to the collision.
