A woman has died after reportedly being stabbed in a courthouse in the northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia.

The woman, in her 30s, was apparently stabbed in one of the mediation rooms at Joondalup magistrates court about 10am on Tuesday, the ABC has reported. She was taken to nearby Joondalup health campus but later died.

A 40-year-old man, who a police spokesman said was known to the woman, was taken into custody.

The court was closed to allow a forensic investigation to take place. Court cases scheduled for Tuesday would be relisted, a court spokeswoman said.

In April, a 33-year-old Victorian woman was fatally stabbed outside a magistrates court in Sunshine, in Melbourne’s western suburbs.
