Woman dies after M5 crash - police appeal for witnesses

A woman injured in a crash on the M5 at the weekend has died.

The motorway was closed for nine hours on Saturday (November 16), following a collision involving a car and a lorry shortly before 6am.

The incident happened on the southbound carriageway between junction 22 for Burnham-on-Sea and junction 23 for Bridgwater.

The woman - the occupant of the car - was taken to hospital in a critical condition and police have today (November 19) confirmed she has died.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary are now appealing for witnesses. If you can help, you should call 101 and quote the reference 52192 65362.

The incident caused miles of queues and while police thanked drivers for their patience and understanding while collision investigators worked at the scene, others were slammed for 'putting people at risk' by driving the wrong way down the carriageway.
