Nursery worker dies in 'tragic accident' as emergency services swoop on scene

A "well-loved" nursery worker has died following an incident at a business park today.

Emergency services were called to an address in the area of Langage Business Park in Plymouth just after 1pm today.

Kiddi Caru nursery, where the tragedy took place, has released an emotional statement in which it paid tribute to “a well-loved staff member”, Plymouth Live reports.

The nursery said: “In what seems to have been a tragic accident, a member of our staff died today on nursery premises.

“The accident happened in a part of the building where no children were present. No child witnessed the accident or its aftermath.

"The safety and wellbeing of our children and staff is our first priority at all times.

"The incident is still being investigated but the early indications are that it does not raise any ongoing safety concerns.

“Everybody at the nursery is heartbroken by this terrible event and the loss of a well-loved staff member.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with our colleague and her loved ones.”

Paramedics and Devon and Cornwall Police officers said they attended following concerns for the welfare of a female in the industrial park.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police spokesman said: “Police were called to an address at the Langage Park Office Campus, on Langage Industrial Park in Plymouth, by the ambulance service with a report of concern for the welfare of a woman at around 1.20pm.

“Emergency services attended the scene where the woman was sadly confirmed deceased. Her next of kin have been informed.

“The Health and Safety Executive have also been informed and police enquiries are ongoing.”

Residents reported seeing emergency service personnel in "hazardous material suits", but South Western Ambulance Service explained staff "routinely wear personal protective equipment for the safety of our patients and themselves."

A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: “South Western Ambulance Service was called on Thursday 9 July at 1.01pm about an incident at an address in the area of Langage Business Park, Chaddlewood.

"We sent land and air ambulance crews to attend the incident.”
