Woman dies after house fire in Co Antrim

An elderly woman has died following a house fire in Co Antrim on Saturday.

The emergency services were called to a fire at a property on the Ballyrickard Road, Larne, just after 1pm on Saturday, February 28.

Police closed a section of the road and motorists were advised to avoid the area while firefighters dealt with the blaze for over an hour and a half.

It came to a conclusion shortly after 2.30pm.

Three fire appliances and two fire officers were sent to the scene and the fire is not being treated as suspicious.

Following the blaze a woman in her 80s was taken to hospital in a critical condition and she has now sadly passed away from her injuries.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police can confirm that a woman, aged in her 80’s, has died following a fire at a house on the Ballyrickard Road in Larne on Saturday 27th February.

"The fire was reported to police at around 1pm on Saturday afternoon and the woman was taken to hospital for treatment but sadly passed away a short time later.

"The fire is not being treated as suspicious."
