Woman dies after getting into difficulty while swimming off UK coast

The body of a woman has been found in the sea after she went swimming.

Police say the woman got into trouble after she went into the water off the coast of County Antrim in Northern Ireland.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Emergency services were called at 5.30pm on Thursday after the woman did not return after 90 minutes.

She was spotted in the water in the Browns Bay area by a Coastguard helicopter, who then alerted the RNLI.

A spokesperson for the RNLI said: "Larne RNLI was requested to launch both lifeboats, the all-weather lifeboat and the inshore lifeboat at 5.52pm following a report of a missing swimmer in Browns Bay area.

"The Coastguard helicopter from Prestwick was also tasked. The helicopter spotted a casualty in the water and alerted the all-weather lifeboat.

"The crew brought the casualty on-board the lifeboat and the casualty was subsequently airlifted to Antrim Area Hospital."

Police said a post-mortem  examination would be held in due course.
