Woman dies after fire crews race to flat blaze in Glasgow's west end

A woman has been found dead following a flat fire in Glasgow.

Police, firefighters and ambulance crews were scrambled to the blaze on Old Dumbarton Road in the city's west end at around 8.15pm on Thursday December 10.

Officers have since confirmed that a woman was found dead following the tragic incident.

There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

One witness told the Record the road was closed off as fire officers dealt with the third floor blaze.

The road is lined with residential properties as well as local businesses.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Around 8.15pm on Thursday, 10 December, officers in Glasgow received a report of a fire within a property on Old Dumbarton Road.

“Emergency services attended and a woman was found to have died.

"Residents from the building were evacuated. There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances and enquiries are ongoing.

“A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We were alerted at 8.10pm on Thursday, December 10 to reports of a fire at a residential property on Old Dumbarton Road, Glasgow.

“Operations control mobilised six appliances to the scene and firefighters extinguished the fire.”
