Woman dies after falling from Edinburgh's 60-metre-tall Scott Monument

A woman has died after falling from the Scott Monument in the centre of Edinburgh.

Police Scotland said they were called at 3.45pm "after a report of a woman having fallen".

The force said the woman "was sadly pronounced dead at the scene".

The death is not thought to be suspicious but enquiries are at an early stage.

Part of Princes Street, a major road running through the centre of Edinburgh, was closed but has since reopened.

The Scott Monument, the largest monument to a writer anywhere in the world, stands at 60 metres tall and is a major attraction in the Scottish capital.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 2139.
