Woman dies after falling from block of flats on edge of city centre

A woman has died after falling from a block of flats on the edge of the city centre.

Witnesses reported a large response from emergency services near to Chester Road roundabout at around 11pm last night.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police confirmed that they were called to reports of a woman having fallen from a building on Linby Street, Hulme.

Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

It is understood the woman was a resident at Hulme Court, a building managed by housing association One Manchester.

A spokesperson for One Manchester: "We are aware of an upsetting situation with one of our Hulme Court residents occurring at approximately 10.30 last night and we are actively supporting GMP to understand what happened.

"We are also offering support to family members of the resident, other residents of Hulme Court and our colleagues.”

One witness told the M.E.N they saw paramedics treating a person on the floor but they were covered with 'a big blanket'.

Another said she saw "flashing lights" followed by police and then a white tent in place.

"It’s very scary to see," she added.

Greater Manchester Police said there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.

A GMP spokesperson said: "Police were called at shortly after 10.50pm yesterday (2 December) to report of a woman falling from a building on Linby Street, Manchester.

"Emergency services attended but sadly, despite the best efforts of paramedics, the woman died at the scene.

"There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances. Enquiries are ongoing."
