Woman dies after fall near popular beauty spot north of Glasgow

A WOMAN has died after falling near a waterfall beauty spot north of Glasgow, on what was the hottest day of the year so far.

Emergency services were called to Campsie Glen in East Dunbartonshire at about 12.35pm on Saturday, following reports a 63-year-old woman had fallen near the waterfall car park.

Police confirmed she died at the scene, and that her death is not being treated as suspicious.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.35pm on Saturday, July 12 police received a report a 63-year-old woman had fallen near Campsie Glen waterfall car park.

“Emergency services attended and the woman died at the scene. Her family is aware.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”

The incident came amid a heatwave that on Saturday saw temperatures exceed 32C in Scotland for just the seventh time since 1961.
