Woman dies after collapsing in street then being hit by car on Christmas Day

A woman has tragically died after collapsing on a busy road then being hit by a car on Christmas Day in Bolton.

Police rushed to the scene after being called out at 7.05pm yesterday.

After initial enquiries, officers established the woman had been a pedestrian who collapsed while crossing the road.

After collapsing, the woman was tragically hit by a car, the Manchester Evening News reports.

Greater Manchester Police says a man in his 60s was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He has since been released under investigation.

Police are now urging any witnesses to come forward with information they have about the incident.

PC Phil Collingwood, of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Firstly, I'd like to offer our condolences to the woman's family.

"Our investigation is ongoing - I appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident or has footage which may assist us to get in touch as soon as possible."

Roads were closed off in the area following the incident, with eyewitnesses reporting surrounding streets were 'gridlocked' during the evening on Christmas Day.

Anyone with information about the collision should contact police by calling 0161 856 4741, quoting incident number 1936 of December 25, 2021.

Alternatively, witnesses can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, by phoning 0800 555 111.
