A 51-year-old woman has died after a car crashed into a creek in South Australia's South East this morning.

Emergency service crews were called to the intersection of the Princes Highway and Southern Ports Highway at Kingston just after 7:30am, where they found a car had left the road, driven through a reserve and crashed into Maria Creek.

SA Police officers and major crash investigators remained at the scene on Saturday afternoon.

In a statement, SA Police said the Toyota sedan was travelling west along the Princes Highway when it crashed.

The 51-year-old South East woman, who was a rear passenger in the car, died at the scene.

The car's driver, a 53-year-old woman, and front passenger, a 21-year-old woman, were taken to the Kingston Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Both women — also from the South East — were later moved to the Mount Gambier Hospital for treatment.

The fatality takes South Australia's road toll to 55 in 2021, compared with 48 at the same time last year.
