A 28-year-old woman has died after being shot in the head Monday in Austin on the West Side.

Melinda Anderson, of West Humboldt Park, was pronounced dead at 3:25 p.m. Tuesday at Stroger Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

She was shot about 1 a.m. in the 5600 block of West Madison Street, Chicago police said.

Someone drove away after dropping her off at West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, police said. She was transferred to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.

Autopsy results revealed Anderson died of a gunshot wound, the medical examiner’s office said. Her death was ruled a homicide.

On Monday, police said detectives had not located any witnesses of the shooting.

The Chicago police news affairs office on Wednesday was unable to provide additional information about the shooting.
