Woman dies after being pulled from South Coast beach

A Sydney woman has died after being pulled from the water a beach south of Moruya.

Emergency services responded to reports a woman and boy were stuck in a rip at Congo Beach about 4.30pm on Sunday.

A surfer helped the pair back to shore, police were told by witnesses. The 10-year-old boy was not injured.

Bystanders started CPR but the 50-year-old Sydney woman died at the scene a short time later.

Officers from South Coast Police District attended and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
