Woman dies after being mowed down by getaway car in horror shop robbery in Dalkey, Dublin

One woman has died after being fatally mowed down by a getaway car after a horror shop robbery in Dublin.

At around 9:20pm on Tuesday evening, several men entered the shop and threatened staff before making off with a sum of cash at a store on the Barnhill Road in Dalkey.

The gang left the scene in a car but hit two female pedestrians moments later at the junction of Ballinclea Road and Avondale Road in Killiney.

Both women, who are in their 50s, were treated at the scene and were removed to St Vincent’s University Hospital where it is understood one of the women sadly died overnight.

The second woman is being treated for minor injuries in the hospital.

The men are understood to have abandoned the car and fled on foot and a garda manhunt is now underway to find the killers.

A garda spokesman said: "The occupants of the car have not yet been located and searches in the area are continuing. Gardaí say no one was physically harmed in the raid.

"Crime scenes are currently preserved on both Barnhill Road and Ballinclea Road / Avondale Road. The services of Garda forensic collision investigators and local scenes of crime officers have been requested.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact Dun Laoghaire Garda Station on 01 666 5000 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.

"Investigations are ongoing."
