Woman dies after being hit by train near Nottingham station

Transport police have confirmed a woman died after being hit by a train on the line near Nottingham.

East Midlands Railway (EMR) reported the incident shortly after 5am on Friday, May 7, and confirmed it happened between Nottingham and Derby.

Emergency services attended, however, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: "British Transport Police were called to the line near Nottingham at 5.02am today (7 May) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however, sadly a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

"This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

A spokesperson for East Midlands Railway (EMR) reported this morning: "We are sad to report that a person has been hit by a train. This has occurred between Derby and Nottingham and is disrupting our trains on the Matlock/ Derby/ Nottingham, Leicester/ Lincoln/ Grimsby and London- Nottingham routes.

"At present emergency services are on site managing the incident."

EMR confirmed just after 7am that trains were able to run between Nottingham and Derby again, although there will be delays to some services.
