Woman dies after being hit by lorry as road remains closed

A pedestrian has died after being involved in a crash with a lorry.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Park Road, in Ormskirk, on Thursday.

Police closed the road outside Morrisons in both directions between Aughton Street and St Helens Road.

Lancashire Constabulary has now confirmed that a woman has died following the incident.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: "We were called at about 12.30pm today (Thursday, October 17th) to reports of a collision between a woman pedestrian and a lorry on Park Road in Ormskirk.

"The pedestrian, a local woman, suffered serious injuries and, despite the efforts of paramedics, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

"The road remains closed and enquiries into the circumstances of the collision are on-going." 

Police closed Park Road for several hours and diverted traffic around Ormskirk town centre.

Motorists were asked to find alternate routes.
