A 36-year-old woman has died two days after being critically injured in a crash south of Batemans Bay.

Just after 9am Sunday, the emergency services were called to the Princes Highway, south of Batemans Bay, following reports of a crash.

The police said they had been told that a Mazda hatchback travelling south and a Toyota Landcruiser towing a caravan travelling in the opposite direction collided in the northbound lanes.

It is not known how the dead woman's car crossed into the opposite lane. She was alone in her car.

Officers from South Coast District of New South Wales police were at the crash scene and are continuing their investigation.

The driver of the car was flown to Canberra Hospital with serious head injuries. The police said she died on Tuesday night. She is believed to be from Surf Beach.

A report will be prepared for the information of the coroner.

The police urged witnesses or anyone with information, including dashcam footage, to contact them or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
