Homicide detectives are investigating the death of a woman after an apparent assault at a property in Kyneton, in central Victoria.
Emergency services were called to Lavenders Lane, near the racecourse on the outskirts of town, at 3:45pm after reports of an assault.
A woman was treated by paramedics but she died at the scene.
She was found with what police believed to be "assault-related injuries".
Police said a 44-year-old Kyneton man was assisting them with their inquiries.
Kyneton is about 90 kilometres north-west of Melbourne.
