Woman died as she tried to cross Kingsway, in Burnage

A pedestrian has died following a late-night crash on a busy dual carriageway in south Manchester.

The woman - believed to be in her 60s - was crossing Kingsway, close to the junction with Burnage Hall Road, when she was hit by a motorbike.

Emergency crews raced to the scene but the woman was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene.

Her family are being supported by specially trained officers from Greater Manchester Police.

A 40-year-old motorcyclist was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and remains there for treatment.

Officers from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are now appealing witnesses to come forward with information about the incident - which happened shortly before 11:25pm on Thursday (July 4).

The investigation team are particularly keen to speak with anyone who may have seen the motorcycle in the moments leading up to the collision.

“First and foremost I want to extend my most sincere condolences to the family of the woman who passed away following the collision on Kingsway in Burnage last night,” police constable Philip Shaw said.
