Woman 'devastated' after wedding and engagement rings she left in hospital toilets disappear

A woman says she is "losing sleep" after her wedding and engagement rings she left behind at a hospital disappeared.

Ola Alabi-Nzewi, 42, was attending an appointment at Nottingham City Hospital on Thursday, February 20, when she nipped into the restroom at around 9.30am.

To wash her hands, she removed her 18-carat white gold wedding and engagement bands, but left the toilets without putting them back on.

When she returned around half an hour later, remembering she had left them behind by the sink, they were gone.

"It was raining a bit so I stood at the entrance of the hospital for a bit," she told Nottinghamshire Live.

"I got to the zebra crossing and I remembered, so I ran back to the toilet.

"I shouted someone 'help, my rings, my rings'. I have been calling the hospital every day to ask if anyone has returned them.

"The police called in to check the CCTV but it was being refurbished at that time. I keep checking for the rings on the internet.

"I'm losing sleep over this. I want to find my rings."

Mrs Alabi-Nzewi, a cash control advisor who lives in St Ann's, married her husband Izu in November 2018.

They had known each other two years prior.

"He has just been trying to console me and forget it, but I cannot," she added.

"That day I just cried and I refused to leave the hospital. I'm heartbroken."

The wedding ring is 18-carat white gold with one-carat diamonds round the band, while the engagement ring has a large square of diamonds in the middle.

They are a size 'P' and were purchased from Warren James.

They also came with a certificate and the wedding ring had a serial number inscribed on the side.

It reads: "1005257".

A Nottinghamshire Police spokeswoman added: "Officers from Nottinghamshire Police are investigating after a report of two rings going missing at Nottingham City Hospital.

"It was reported that a woman took her wedding ring and engagement ring off in a public toilet at the hospital and left them there. When she returned, the rings were gone.

"Officers are investigating what happened, including looking at CCTV from the hospital."
