Woman detained under mental health act after car plunges off Mumbles cliff

A 37-year-old woman has been detained under the mental health act after her car plunged off a cliff.

At 6am this morning emergency services in Swansea were called to an incident at Limeslade Bay where a car had entered the sea and ended up almost submerged in water off Mumbles.

South Wales Police headed to Limeslade Bay along with the volunteer crew of Mumbles lifeboat and the coastguard.

The driver, who is from Townhill, had managed to escape the vehicle and swim to shore where she approached members of the public for help.

She was then taken to hospital by ambulance.

A statement released by South Wales Police said: “At 6am this morning emergency services in Swansea were called to an incident at Limeslade Bay where a car had entered the sea.

“A 37-year-old woman from the Townhill area was detained under the Mental Health Act and taken to Morriston Hospital where she is being treated for her injuries.”
