Two dead in shooting in Perth suburb of Bateman

Police have closed Scouler Way in Bateman while they investigate the fatal shooting.

A man and a woman are dead after a shooting in Bateman in Perth's south overnight.

Police were called to a home on Scouler Way about 7pm on Friday after neighbours reported hearing gunshots.

The 59-year-old woman was discovered dead at the scene.

The 67-year-old-man was seriously injured and taken to hospital under police guard, but later died.

WA Police said the man and woman were known to each other and there was no ongoing safety risk to the public.

Local resident, Kenneth Cheok, who was walking his dog at the time, was one of the first people on the scene.

"I called the cops and I said look there is a guy lying on the ground … and he is breathing very heavily," Mr Cheok said.

"I walked a little further and I see this poor lady … she is lying on the ground.

"She wasn't breathing at all.

"It was quite a traumatic experience.

"You don't see these things every day."

Police have closed the street while they continue their investigations.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers.
