The body of a young woman has been found following a flat fire in Angus.
The blaze ripped through a four-in-a-block in South Street, Forfar on Saturday.
Emergency crews scrambled to the scene at around 3pm.
Fire officers put out the inferno but soon after a 28-year-old woman was found dead inside the flat.
Police told the Record her next of kin are aware.
No other casualties have been reported.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
A probe is now underway and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
A Police Scotland spokesman told the Record: "At around 3.05pm on Saturday, September 2 police were called to a report of a fire at a property in South Street in Forfar.
“The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) attended and extinguished the fire but sadly the body of a 28-year-old woman was recovered from the property.
“Her next of kin has been made aware.
“A joint investigation into the fire is ongoing with the SFRS and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.”
Three fire appliances were sent to put out the fire.
Fire crews have since left the scene as the investigation gets underway.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesman told the Record: “We were alerted to a report of a fire at 2.51 pm on Saturday 2 October at a four-block tenement in South Street, Forfar.
"Three appliances were immediately mobilised to the location and the fire was extinguished.
"Crews have now left the scene.”
