Woman dead after being pulled from water as cops called to Scots pier

A woman has died after being pulled from water off a pier in Argyll and Bute.

Officers were called to Helensburgh Pier just before 5pm on July 2 after reports of a 'person seen in the water'.

A 75-year-old woman was discovered by emergency crews.

Sadly the pensioner was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police don't believe that there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

Their investigation is still ongoing.

Any witnesses, those who were in the area at the time or anyone else with information is urged to come forward.

A Police Scotland spokesman told the Record: “We were made aware of a person seen in the water off Helensburgh Pier around 4.55pm on Friday, 2 July.

“A 75-year-old woman was removed from the water but was pronounced dead a short time later.

“Enquiries are ongoing into the death however it is not believed to be suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.

"Officers are appealing for anyone who was in the area of the pier at the time and who may be able to assist to get in touch.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact officers on 101 quoting incident 2604 o July 2, 2021."
