Woman dead after being hit by car in horror crash as driver arrested

A young woman has died after she was knocked down following a crash on a Glasgow street this morning.

Police have launched a probe after the 26-year-old female died at the scene on Eglinton Street near Cook Street in the south side of the city.

The crash happened at around 8.45am on Wednesday, October 6.

Police were called to a two vehicle road crash where one of the cars, a Toyota Yaris, left the road and struck the woman who was walking on the footpath.

Ambulance crews rushed to the scene but the lady could not be saved.

The driver of the Toyota Yaris and the other vehicle involved were not injured.

A 35-year-old man has arrested in connection with the incident.

Police are appealing for information following the horrifying incident.

Sergeant Kenny Malaney, Greater Glasgow Road Policing Unit, said: "Our condolences are with the family of the lady who has died.

"Enquiries into the crash are continuing.

"Anyone with information, including any relevant dash-cam footage from the street at the time of the crash, can call officers at Greater Glasgow Road Policing Unit via 101.

"Please quote reference number 0626 of October 6, 2021, when calling."
