Woman cyclist fighting for life after being struck by hit-and-run driver

A woman is in a critical condition after she was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Merseyside this morning.

Emergency services were called to Lunt Road, Sefton, near to The Punchbowl at around 8.45am to reports of a woman cyclist in her 30s being found seriously injured in the road.

It is believed she had been struck by a vehicle which failed to stop at the scene.

She was taken to hospital by ambulance and is currently described as being in a critical condition. Her family has been made aware and are being supported by officers.

Police said enquiries were ongoing at the scene and road closures remained in place.

A 23-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop after a road traffic accident. She remains in custody.
