A woman has been taken to hospital after a crash in Consett.

Emergency Services were called to the incident on Genesis Way, on the corner of Fenwick Way, on Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters had to extract the woman by cutting the roof from the vehicle before she was taken to hospital.

The nature of her injuries are currently unknown.

A County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “We received the call at 12:37pm on Tuesday afternoon, and three appliance attended - one from Consett, another from High Handenhold, and also the special rescue unit from Bishop Auckland.

“One female adult was extracted from the vehicle using specialist equipment and has been transported to the hospital by the ambulance service.

“We left the scene at 1:45pm.”

A spokeswoman from Durham Constabulary confirmed that they were called to the scene of the incident at about 12.30pm after reports of a collision involving one vehicle.

Police closed the road between the junctions with Park Road and the Tesco mini roundabout.

A spokeswoman for North East Ambulance Service said they sent an ambulance to the scene at just after 12pm.
