Woman cut out of her car as nasty rush hour crash shuts main road

A woman had to be cut free a car after a crash in Stockport.

Emergency services were called to Finney Lane in Heald Green just after 4:15pm.

GMP say they received reports of a "multi-vehicle collision."

At least two damaged cars and a bus were visible at the scene.

One woman had to be cut free from a Citroen car, emergency services said.

She was said to be suffering from chest injuries and the roof of the vehicle was sawn off by firefighters to allow medics to safely move her.

In a statement Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue service said: “At 16:21 hours on 5th December 2019, two fire engines from Cheadle and Wythenshawe fire stations and the technical response units from Ashton-under-Lyne fire station were mobilised to a road traffic collision involving two cars on Finney Lane, Heald Green.

“Firefighters extricated one casualty from a vehicle suffering from suspected chest injuries using stabilisation and cutting equipment, lighting, and longboard.

"Fire crews were on scene for approximately 55 minutes.”

Witnesses said the woman was taken to hospital but the severity of her injuries aren't known.

The road had been closed in both directions between the junctions with Wilmslow Road and Outwood Road before reopening at around 6pm.

One eyewitness told the Manchester Evening News: "The crash was between two small cars, a Fiat 500 and Citroen C1.

"It is looks like the driver of C1 has been taken to Hospital immediately after the crash and she had to be taken out of the car by the fire worker by cutting off the roof of it.

"The Fiat had considerable damage to front off side driver side and C1 had damage front off side too.

"There are still fire engines, several police cars and Finney Lane road is closed on both directions with cars queueing on either direction.

"The whole area has been cordoned off."

Transport for Greater Manchester said at the time: "Due to a Police incident, Finney Lane in Heald Green is reportedly closed in both directions between the junctions of Wilmslow Road (the B5358) and Outwood Road. Follow @StagecoachGM for bus diversion information #TfGMTraffic ."

Stagecoach said: "Due to a police incident on Finney Lane services diverting via Wilmslow Rd Outwood Lane both directions until further notice."
