Woman cut from car following crash on major road

A woman was cut from a car following a crash on a major road on the outskirts of Manchester city centre. Emergency services were called to the smash, involving two cars pn Cheetham Hill Road at about 6.45am this morning (Saturday).

Firefighters rescued a woman from one of the vehicles before she was then treated by paramedics. The extent of her injuries are not yet known.

A stretch of Cheetham Hill Road between New Bridge Street and Carnarvon Street was closed for several hours following the incident. The road reopened at about 12.25pm.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "At approximately 6.45am on Saturday, April 1, firefighters were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Cheetham Hill Road in Manchester.

"Fire engines from Manchester Central and Broughton stations, alongside the technical response unit from Ashton-under-Lyne, quickly attended the scene.

"The collision involved two cars. A woman was extracted from one of the vehicles by firefighters using specialist cutting equipment. She was then transferred to the care of colleagues from the North West Ambulance Service.

"Fire crews were at the scene for around an hour."

Greater Manchester Police has been approached for comment.
