Woman critically ill in hospital after being hit by a car in Cardiff

A woman is critically ill in hospital after being hit by a car on Tuesday evening.

The 51-year-old woman was taken to hospital following the collision in Canton just after 3pm on Tuesday, October 20.

A red Volkswagen Caravelle collided with a parked empty blue Nissan Qashqai on Market Road and a woman who was walking along the pavement at the time was seriously injured.

A spokeswoman from South Wales Police said the pedestrian was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff by ambulance.

They added: "A 71-year-old man from Caerphilly has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and is released under investigation.

"Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are investigating.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident or the manner in which the VW van was being driven prior to the collision is asked to contact South Wales Police.

"Officers are also appealing for anyone in the area with CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward."
