A woman has come up with an ingenious and cheap way to stop her dog becoming distressed by fireworks on bonfire night.
Dawn Holmes uploaded a video of her "inexpensive solution" using only two readily available items to help minimise her dog's distress caused by loud bangs.
Dawn felt she need to act after her dog, Hosay, was "very badly affected" by the sound of fireworks at the weekend, reports the Daily Post.
After trying the usual methods of turning up the television and giving Hosay his comfort blanket, Dawn came up with a last ditch idea of creating a headpiece using a pair of thick tights and some cotton wool.
In the video, Dawn, who is from Cheshire, demonstrates how to apply the makeshift headpiece on Hosay, who she says has grown accustomed to wearing it.
By gently placing the cotton wool beneath a dog's ears and then wrapping the tights around its head, its hearing becomes muffled and it is able to cope much better when the fireworks are on, Dawn claims.
The only issue, she says, is getting the dog to wear the headpiece - something that may prove more difficult with some dogs over others.
Dawn said: "To see a dog so distressed it is so upsetting for an animal lover. I thought there has got to be an inexpensive solution.
"My dog is very badly affected by fireworks and I'd tried several things in the past like turning up the TV or giving him a snuggle blanket but that didn't work so I tried this at the weekend and it helped a lot.

"All you need is a pair of thick tights, some cotton wool and a pair of scissors. It may take a few tries to get them used to it, but it's worth it when the fireworks come.
"I hope it can help other people's dogs as well."
