A woman came to the rescue of a driver during an attempted hijacking in West Belfast in the early hours of this morning.
The victim, a woman in her 50s, had got our of her car on Andersonstown Road shortly after 2.20am and when she returned a man had got into the rear of her car and demanded the keys.
He attempted to drag the woman from her car but another woman in her 60s, who had also got out of the vehicle, then came to help the driver.
The suspect then made off with an unknown woman.
Detective Constable Gibson said: "Shortly after 2.20am, it was reported that a woman in her 50s had got out of a silver Renault car in the car park at a nearby Fold. As the woman then returned to her vehicle, it was reported an unknown man had gained entry to the rear passenger seat of the vehicle.
"The man asked for the drivers’ keys, and then made his way around to the other side of the car and tried to drag the woman from the vehicle. Another woman in her 60s who had also got out of the vehicle, then came to help the driver. The man then made off from the scene with an unknown woman towards the Drumisk Park area following the incident.
"The man is described as being aged around 18 years old, 5”8 in height and of medium build. He is described as wearing a grey tracksuit with short, dark hair. The woman is described as having blonde hair, slim build and wearing a grey tracksuit.
"Enquiries are continuing and we are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference number 104 28/10/20. Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."
