Woman claims she found 'dirty wet wipe' halfway through drinking Pepsi can

A Bristol woman has warned others to avoid drinking Pepsi after claiming she found a 'dirty tissue' at the bottom of one of her cans.

Shanice Fraser said she was left stunned and worried for her own health after the alleged discovery, which she said happened last week on Wednesday (May 27).

She claims the can in question was bought as part of multi-pack of Pepsi Max from a Morrisons Daily branch in Hengrove Way a week beforehand.

Pepsi has insisted their production lines are equipped with 'extremely fine filters' which prevent any such matter from entering the product but has added it is investigating the matter.

Describing the moment she allegedly found the tissue, the 25-year-old told Bristol Live: "I was sat in my garden and could hear something fizzing in my drink.

The customer said she saw could see 'something floating' in the can (Shanice Fraser)

"As I was sipping it, it began to taste funny but I thought it was my face cream. I then looked inside the can and could see something floating in it.

"I immediately took it to the sink, and a dirty tissue or wet wipe came out from the bottom of the can.

"I was so shocked - I didn't know what do."

Fearful for her health, Ms Fraser said she called her GP the same day and contacted Pepsi through social media, who asked her to send the can in the post so the matter could be looked into.

She replied by saying she would hold off on sending anything through until she had heard back from environmental health.

"The same night I had stomach pains," she said.

"I am really worried for my own safety now, especially with coronavirus going around.

"I have no idea where that tissue has come from."

She also posted a warning to other customers on Facebook, saying: "I’ve just found this in my Pepsi Max can halfway through drinking it!

"A dirty tissue! I am fuming. It could be contaminated."

What Pepsi has said

A spokesperson for Pepsi said: “The safety and quality of our products is our number one concern.

"We can reassure you that our state-of-the art production lines are equipped with extremely fine filters and are designed in a way that any such matter is prevented from entering the product.

"Still, we are taking this complaint seriously.

"We are in contact with Ms. Fraser and have asked her to send us the item so we can carry out a thorough investigation.”
