Woman claims man 'ran her over' in supermarket parking row - then wife wades in

A woman claims that she was hit by a car as a man was reversing out of a supermarket car park, but his wife thinks "she was a chancer" after a quick payout. The man's wife took to a popular Mumsnet forum to share her anger at the woman '"crying" to supermarket staff that she was "scared," while falsely claiming that her husband had run her over

On the 'am I being unreasonable' thread, she wrote: "In the supermarket with family. DH [dear husband] leaves the store to nip across the road in car for extra bits while we finish the shop.

"He goes to inch out of the parking space only to discover that a random lady was in his blind spot walking to the store with her trolley. Warning sensors beeped - he stopped immediately. Said lady then proceeds to bang on the window and demand he gets out and speak to her and a whole shit show of drama ensues."

The wife claims that the woman accused her husband of "touching her hip with the car" and threatened to call the police. The wife claims that her husband is a "people pleaser" and asked if the woman was ok and if she needed anything. The wife claims that the other woman then gave him a "lecture about how to drive" and demanded to see a disabled badge as they were parked in a disabled and children's bay, while their children were inside the store.

On the original post, she added: "She starts taking pictures of the car, number plate and DH [dear husband] for 'evidence'. Says she isn’t hurt in any way but she doesn’t feel DH [dear husband] apology is sufficient or sincere. He asks how he can resolve and she says it’s up to him to 'convince her he’s sorry'. She is repeatedly threatening to call the police, so DH [dear husband] offers to call them himself and as soon as he dials she disappears off into the shop.

We reunite and he tells me what happened. By this point, DH [dear husband] is shaken (he’s a nervous guy) and starts to worry he is going to be in some sort of trouble if she makes an accusation at a later date. As luck would have it we bump into her later at the exit and she is with a manager. She starts crying and saying she needs to be escorted to her car because she was run over and is scared of DH [dear husband].

"Anyway, I got tired of seeing Dh [dear husband] grovelling to her so I may/may not have told her where to stick her trolley. Interested to know how other people would have handled it." The wife added that she had a few theories of why the woman acted in this way, one being that she was "a chancer hoping for an offer of cash or something similar."

Many Mumsnet users were shocked at the woman's behaviour and said that they would have acted the same way as the couple. One person said: "She is a nut job and thought he might offer her some money or pay for her shopping to avoid a scene." Another added: "I would have asked for the CCTV and called the police - she sounds like a chancer wanting to make a claim."

One woman said: "I would have told her to calm down. I mean yeah your dh [dear husband] should be checking his blind spot but you don’t start walking out in front of reversing cars (she must of seen reverse lights) Unless you dh [dear husband] was reversing quickly without looking I’d be annoyed with your dh [dear husband] but how she behaves afterwards not accepting his apology etc was very much drama llama.

"Your dh [dear husband] unfortunately picked the wrong person to in her words run her over. Nothing will come of it, tell him not to worry but look out for people in the car park next time."

While another commented: "This sort of thing is one of the reasons I'm saving for front and rear dashcams. My brother says his have already saved him a lot of hassle from an attempted 'crash for cash' scam.
