Woman charged with quarantine breach in tourist town of Broome

The charges come amid high concern about the spread of the Delta variant in the Kimberley. (ABC Kimberley: Tom Forrest)

A woman has been charged with breaching quarantine after allegedly checking herself out of her Broome hotel and spending four days out in the community.

Shannai Reid, 22, arrived in the tourist town last week from Queensland and was directed to self-isolate at the Roebuck Bay Hotel.

But she allegedly checked herself out of the hotel after receiving a negative COVID test, Broome Magistrates Court heard.

It is believed she may have travelled to a number of locations around the Broome town site, including popular tourist spot Gantheaume Point.

Police conducted a routine quarantine check at the hotel on Tuesday morning.

Ms Reid was later picked up at the Broome International Airport and charged for failing to comply with a direction.

She has been remanded in custody at Broome Regional Prison, where she will remain before her next court appearance on August 30.
