Woman charged with attempted murder of girl, 8, in Edinburgh stabbing

A woman has been charged with the attempted murder of an eight-year-old girl at a house in Edinburgh.

The girl's condition has been upgraded from critical to stable after she was allegedly stabbed at a property in the Scottish capital at about 1.35am on Wednesday.

A 48-year-old woman appeared in private at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Friday over the incident.

She was charged with attempted murder and made no plea or declaration, the Crown Office confirmed.

The woman was detained under an assessment order and the case has been committed for further examination.

She had also been found with serious injuries, police said, and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Detective Inspector Paul Grainger, of Corstorphine CID, said: "I want to take this opportunity to commend staff at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children for their tremendous medical efforts so far.

"Thankfully, the girl is now described as being in a stable condition and specialist detectives continue to support her family."
