Woman charged with attempted murder after young mum hurt in Shotts 'hit and run'

Police probing an alleged hit and run incident have arrested and charged a woman with attempted murder.

Courtney Stewart has been named locally as the victim of the incident which took place on Friday, June 21.

The 21-year-old young mum was hit by a car on Station Road in Shotts .

She was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where she was treated for her injuries.

The charity worker took to social media from her hospital bed to describe her "horrible night".

Police have since confirmed a 23-year-old woman has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

A spokesperson added: "She is due to appear in Hamilton Sheriff Court on Tuesday, June 25.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
