Woman charged with arson over Adelaide CBD hotel fire

Damage to the Ambassadors Hotel in Adelaide's CBD following the fire.

Police have charged a woman with arson over a fire at an Adelaide CBD hotel overnight that caused about $250,000 damage.

King William Street's Ambassadors Hotel was evacuated about 2:30am, after the rear of the building on Waymouth Place caught fire.

Emergency services evacuated about 30 people, with firefighters containing the blaze to the outside of the building.

Police said a 48-year-old Birkenhead woman was charged with arson this morning in connection with the fire.

The woman was located in nearby Gilbert Place a short time after the fire, and police arrested her for unrelated matters before linking her with the blaze.

She is expected to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court later today.

SA Police Senior Constable Kate Dawson said it was lucky no-one was injured in the fire.

"We're just asking anybody who may have seen some suspicious activity in the area around 2:20am this morning to contact Crime Stoppers," she said.

Meanwhile, police say a separate fire at a unit in Elizabeth Park is also being treated as suspicious.

Crews were called just after midnight to the home in Kilsby Street.

Twelve firefighters worked for 45 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

The fire caused $150,000 damage.

No-one was home at the time.

Fire cause investigators are treating the fire as suspicious.
