A woman will appear in court charged with multiple offences after a car mounted the kerb outside a school leaving three pupils injured.

The crash occurred outside Upholland High School, on Sandbrook Road, in Upholland near Skelmersdale.

Three children, understood to be aged between 13-14, suffered bruises and whiplash injuries earlier this year on 8 January.

Today, Lancashire Police announced that a 40-year-old woman from Skelmersdale has been charged with five offences including dangerous driving, child neglect and three counts of assault.

Denise Gannon, 40, of Miners View is due to appear at Preston Magistrate's Court on August 27.

In a statement, Lancashire Police said: "Police were called around 3.35pm on January 8 to reports a car had mounted the kerb outside Upholland High, injuring three school pupils. Fortunately they only suffered only minor bruising and whiplash injuries.

"A 40-year-old woman from Skelmersdale was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and assault and later bailed pending further enquiries.

"Denise Gannon, 40, of Miners View, has been summoned to appear at court in connection with one offence of dangerous driving, one offence of child neglect and three offences of assault.

"She is due to appear at Preston Magistrates' Court on August 27."
