A woman has been charged following the alleged stabbing of another woman known to her in Townsville.

The victim was taken to the Townsville University Hospital where she remains in a serious but stable condition.

A 43-year old woman was arrested an hour after the offence at another address, and was charged with one count of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.

Catherine Sarha Clingan fronted the Townsville Magistrates Court on Monday and was denied police bail.

She remains in custody and will appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court on August 23.
